Classes for Siblings, Grandparents of Newborns
Memorial Hospital Obstetrics Adds Family Education Classes
Parents of newborns often take classes to prepare for the birth of, and aftercare of, their baby. Now Memorial Hospital’s Obstetrics has added classes for siblings and grandparents, in order to provide complete family support.
The Siblings Class is designed for children age three and older, who will, or have become, siblings with the arrival of a new baby. This class helps the brothers and sisters feel special and involved in the process of welcoming the new addition into the family. Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. The cost is $10 per family. Upcoming classes will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 18 and Sunday, November 20.
The Grandparents Class will help this special group support their children who are parents of newborns. It includes information about current trends in birth practices and infant care, age-appropriate play, developmental milestones, and tips for ensuring a safe environment. A tour of the birthing suites is also included. The cost is $10 per family. The next classes will be at 6 p.m., Saturday, August 27 and Saturday, October 29.
Other classes cover childbirth education, breastfeeding, and newborn care. In addition, a Breastfeeding Support Group meets regularly at Memorial Hospital. All classes are taught by Registered Nurses, and advance registration is required. For information, visit memorialohio.com/events.
