Oncology Pharmacist Nominated
Ohio Hospital Association Annual Award nominee is Jeannie Kim
Memorial Health has selected Oncology Pharmacist Chin “Jeannie” Kim, PharmD as their nominee for the 2017 Ohio Hospital Association’s (OHA) Albert E. Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year Award. This honor is awarded to one healthcare employee in Ohio who personifies leadership, reflects the mission and values of his or her organization, routinely performs work in an exemplary manner, and gives back to the community.
“We are proud to nominate Jeannie Kim for this prestigious award because she exemplifies the kind of employee we seek at Memorial Health,” explains Chip Hubbs, President and CEO. “Her high clinical skills combine with a caring personality to make her a shining example of someone who deserves to be considered for this honor.”
As Memorial Hospital’s specially trained Oncology Pharmacist, Jeannie works closely with cancer patients and their caregivers in the Specialty Care Center to provide important information and guidelines about their medications’ use and its effects.
In addition to being widely respected for her clinical knowledge and compassion for patients and their families, Jeannie has collaborated with others at Memorial to develop innovative programs to obtain assistance for patients who may not otherwise be able to afford the expensive cancer therapies required.
Her insight, energy, leadership, and hard work have also been instrumental in the creation of the very progressive and innovative Medication Therapy Navigator program at Memorial Hospital. And she serves as a Preceptor, helping train and mentor pharmacy students, encouraging them to blend compassion with clinical care for patients.
Jeannie says her personal motto is “to treat all patients as if they are my family, my loved ones. I also educate my patients about their medications so that they are more informed, and more involved in their care.”
Jeannie came to the United States from South Korea with her family and grew up in Georgia and Virginia. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University College of Pharmacy in Atlanta, and completed her residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. She has worked as a Pharmacist or Oncology Pharmacist at various hospitals, including Mount Carmel East hospital in Columbus. Jeannie came to Memorial Hospital seven years ago. She is married, has two sons, and lives in Dublin.
All nominees for this prestigious statewide award will gather at the annual OHA Recognition Dinner on June 13 in Columbus, when the winner will be announced.
