Pain Management Patient Volume Growing

Nurse Practitioner Joins Practice

Shuler Charlene

Memorial Hospital’s Pain Management Center continues to expand its services to provide relief for area residents suffering with chronic pain. Since the center opened in July 2012, there has been an 85 percent increase in the number of clinic visits, and a 44 percent increase in the number of procedures performed on patients (through July 2015).

Medical Director Amish Patel, DO, MPH is board-certified in pain management by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Pain Medicine.

He is now joined by Certified Nurse Practitioner Charlene Shuler, who is accepting patients for evaluation. Shuler has a Master of Science degree in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner from Otterbein University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from The Ohio State University.

Memorial Hospital is committed to countering the negative impact of pain medication abuse. Treatment at the Pain Management Center is designed to minimize the use of pain medications, including narcotics.

The office for the Pain Management Center remains in the Allen Family Medical Building at 660 London Avenue in Marysville. Some procedures will soon be conducted nearby at the newly acquired Memorial Hospital Outpatient Surgery Center at 122 Professional Parkway in Marysville.

A new diagnostic service, which will soon be available, uses electrodes to record electrical activity in muscles, and to assess muscle and nerve cell health. Electromyography (EMG), which will be performed in the office, can reveal nerve dysfunction, muscle dysfunction, or problems with nerve-to-muscle transmission.
