Memorial Hires New Leader for Volunteer Program

Joni Stevens has joined the staff at Memorial Hospital as its new Head of Volunteers, following the retirement of long-term volunteer coordinator Debbie George.

Most recently Stevens worked as American Red Cross District Manager for Recruitment, and held various other positions during her 15 years with that organization. She also previously worked in human resources and customer service for Eddie Bauer and Value City Furniture in Columbus. She will soon complete her Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Business Administration at Franklin University, and has an Associate of Applied Science degree in Marketing from Columbus State Community College. Stevens resides in East Liberty.

“We currently have about 300 active volunteers at Memorial Hospital and Memorial Gables, and want to expand our volunteer pool to include additional people and new opportunities,” explains Stevens. “We’re a growing hospital system and some of our older volunteers are retiring from service. We are always looking for friendly faces. Give us several hours a week and help make a difference in someone’s life,” she added.

Memorial is actively seeking adult volunteers to work three hours a week. Help is especially needed during weekdays for drivers and runners for the Memorial Mobile Meals program. Volunteers are required to undergo a background check, attend orientation, and have a free flu shot each year. Online application can be made here.
