Vascular Surgery Team Grows at Memorial Hospital


OSU physician Hosam El Sayed, MD, PhD has joined Patrick Vaccaro, MD on the vascular surgery team at Memorial Hospital. The doctors are part of The Heart Partnership with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center

Dr. El Sayed is double board-certified in General Surgery and in Vascular Surgery. Dr. El Sayed recently returned to Central Ohio, where he previously completed his residency in General Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He also completed a Vascular Fellowship at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. He returned from Texas, where he had been with Baylor College of Medicine and the Methodist Hospital as part of the Debakey Heart and Vascular Center.

In addition to his clinical obligations treating patients, he is also an Associate Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Division of Vascular Diseases and Surgery.

Dr. El Sayed is on the team of physicians at Memorial Hospital who evaluate issues related to blood vessels and blood flow, including varicose veins, carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms and Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). He brings experience in minimally invasive endovascular interventions and open surgical repair (when required). His clinical and research interests include complex aortic disease and interventions, management of PAD and limb salvage, and vascular access for dialysis. He has written more than 50 publications in vascular literature, in addition to several book chapters.

Through the partnership in place for many years, OSU physicians work alongside with Memorial Hospital clinical staff to provide expertise in Cardiology, Peripheral Vascular Intervention, Vascular Surgery, Pulmonology, Neurology, and Critical Care.
