As of November 2, 2020, Jason Russell, DO, will officially take the reins as Chief Medical Officer of Memorial Health. Named to the position this summer, Dr. Russell succeeds Dr. Victor Trianfo, who is retiring after 21 years with Memorial and over 42 years in the healthcare field. Russell most recently served as the Medical Director of Quality and Risk and Chair of the Memorial Medical Staff Department of Medicine. He led Memorial’s Emergency Department as the Medical Director for five years prior.
“During his tenure with Memorial, Dr. Russell has proven himself to be an excellent clinician, a strong advocate for the patient experience, and a steadfast leader,” comments Memorial Health President/CEO Chip Hubbs. “As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Russell will be instrumental in supporting our medical staff in continued pursuit of clinical excellence at Memorial. We are confident his talents will not only support the advances we have already made, but will also help us accelerate efforts to reach new levels of patient-centered care and service to our region.”
As lead for the areas of Quality and Compliance, Russell has been instrumental in Memorial’s highly concerted focus on clinical quality, accreditation, and overall patient safety. In addition, he has been active in Memorial’s Emergency Management Plan (EMP) and Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) to foster the health system’s response to COVID-19.
As CMO, Russell will continue to lead the Medical Staff, as well as the areas of Quality, Compliance, and Case Management, with Home Health, Respiratory Therapy, and Sleep Medicine being added to his responsibilities. Hubbs comments, “We are elated to have Dr. Russell serve in this key leadership role – he is experienced in uniting diverse teams to achieve excellence in patient care through collaboration and alignment of common goals.”

I am proud to be a part of the Memorial team and play a role in expanding healthcare to our region.”
Russell completed medical school at Pikeville College/School of Osteopathic Medicine, an Emergency Medicine Residency at Doctors Hospital, and a Fellowship in Medical Toxicology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He is certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine with a certificate of added qualification in Medical Toxicology. In addition to his time at Memorial, he also treated poisoned patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital the last six years.
Russell is married to his wife, Sarah, and they have one son, Lucas. Outside of Memorial, he serves as a Board Trustee for the Marysville Uptown Theatre and enjoys skiing, playing hockey and golf, as well as cheering on the Columbus Blue Jackets and Cleveland Browns.
