Mental Health
Mental health is health – not something separate. At Memorial Hospital, we believe mental health is an integral part of your overall well-being – and just as important as your physical health. When your mind and emotions are cared for, you’re better able to live fully, cope with life’s challenges, and stay connected with your community.
Why it’s more important than ever
- Mental health issues can develop at any age and may go unnoticed if we ignore the subtle signs. Early support leads to better outcomes.
- Though they are common and treatable, conditions such as depression, anxiety, or trauma-related disorders still carry stigma. We want you to know you’re not alone and help is available.
- When mental health challenges are left unaddressed, they can impact family, work, community, and overall quality of life. Recognizing signs and seeking care are essential steps.
How we support you
At Memorial Hospital, our integrated approach connects patients with both medical and behavioral health services, ensuring every aspect of your well-being is supported.
Emergency and Crisis Care
- Our Emergency Department is equipped to assess patients experiencing acute mental health or behavioral crises. When needed, our team coordinates the next steps of care, including on-call psychiatric consultations, outpatient referrals, or transfers to inpatient treatment.
- Although Memorial Hospital is primarily a medical and surgical facility, we serve as the community’s entry point for behavioral health emergencies. We partner closely with regional inpatient psychiatric centers to ensure patients receive the appropriate level of ongoing or specialized care.
Integrated Outpatient and Specialty Care
- Memorial provides licensed independent social workers (LISWs) who are embedded within Memorial Medical Group (MMG) primary care practices, providing immediate access to screenings, brief interventions, and mental health support. This approach helps patients receive the right care earlier and improves overall health outcomes.
Community Engagement and Support
- Memorial collaborates with the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Union County (MHRBUC) to expand education, awareness, and access to community resources.
- We also partner closely with Maryhaven for crisis support, as well as with the NAMI Mid-Ohio (National Alliance of Mental Health) on mental health advocacy.
- Memorial partners with Emerald Psychiatry, too – the team at Emerald can provide access to online psychiatry appointments (telepsychiatry) within two weeks, ensuring timely evaluations and follow-up for behavioral health patients.
- For individuals with treatment-resistant depression, Emerald offers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy – this innovative, noninvasive treatment supports patients when traditional therapies are not effective. If you are an established patient with a Memorial primary care provider, our team can assist with referrals to this service.
- Our team can also provide connections to Columbus Springs – the team there provides evidence-based, transformational care for a broad range of mental health and addiction concerns in a compassionate and comfortable environment.
