Effective immediately, Memorial Health has announced it is discontinuing the mandatory masking policy at Memorial Hospital, Memorial outpatient centers, and all Memorial Medical Group physician offices.
According to Jason Russell, DO, and Chief Medical Officer for Memorial, “COVID-19 case counts, both in the region and at the Hospital, have remained at a very low level for the past few months. This trend has continued in an encouraging direction over the last 30 days, as only 6% of the COVID-19 tests performed at Memorial have been positive. Additionally, weekly case rates in our service area continue to decline – Union, Champaign, and Madison counties are all currently below 50 cases per 100,000 people. As a result, we will be revising our mask policy, effective immediately.”
Masking may be required for visitors based on specific patient situations, such as when a patient is in isolation. Masks are also recommended for visitors if they are experiencing any respiratory symptoms. Memorial will continue to have masks available for anyone who is more comfortable wearing one.
The masking policy at Memorial Gables will remain in effect, as long-term care facilities are governed by different rules that still require masking.
