Six high school seniors who live in Union County and who plan to study health-related college majors each received $1,500 in Memorial Hospital Medical Staff Scholarships at recent high school award ceremonies:
- Audrey Ferguson, a senior at North Union High School, will work towards earning an associate degree in dental hygiene at James A. Rhodes State College.
- Madison Fluharty, a senior at Marysville High School, will be studying dental hygiene at The Ohio State University.
- Emma Griffey, a senior at Fairbanks High School, will be pursuing a bachelor degree in nursing at Ohio University.
- Anna Higbee, a senior at Fairbanks High School, will be studying biology or pre-med at the University of Toledo, with the intent to become a pathologist.
- Evelyn McDaniel, a senior at Jonathan Alder High School, will be pursuing a bachelor degree in biology at the University of Florida, with plans to complete her doctorate degree in neuroscience and behavior.
- Nisha Sathiaprakash, a senior at Marysville Early College High School, will major in zoology, biology, or animal science at a university of her choice.
Fluharty, Griffey, and Sathiaprakash were also recognized, as they have participated in the Memorial Health Student Volunteer Program and collectively dedicated over 608 volunteer hours to Memorial since 2018.
All scholarship applications were submitted to the Union County Foundation, which administers the process. The Memorial Hospital Medical Staff has awarded scholarships to area seniors for sixteen years.
Six high school seniors who are current or past student volunteers at Memorial, are in good standing with the Volunteer Services program, and are pursuing higher education after high school each received $500 in Memorial Health Volunteer Services Scholarships. The selection criteria is based on length of service, total number of volunteer service hours, attendance record, and an essay summarizing the volunteer experience. Recipients for 2022 include:
- Majd Al-Marrawi, a senior at Dublin Jerome High School, volunteered over 200 hours with three years of service.
- Garrett Dellinger, a senior at Fairbanks High School, volunteered over 265 hours with three years of service.
- Emma Griffey, a senior at Fairbanks High School, volunteered over 121 hours with four years of service.
- Mary Julia Lashley, a senior at Marysville High School, volunteered over 404 hours with four years of service.
- Nisha Sathiaprakash, a senior at Marysville Early College High School, volunteered over 403 hours with four years of service.
- Olivia Vollrath, a senior at Fairbanks High School, volunteered over 72 hours with three years of service.
This is the first year for the Memorial Health Volunteer Services Scholarship.
