Memorial Health today announced the end-of-year retirement of Britt Cummins, Director of Pharmacy, after 14 years of service to the organization.
“Britt has continuously demonstrated a strong commitment to efficiency and process improvement,” comments Spence Fisher, Executive Vice President for Memorial. “During his tenure, Britt has served as a key player in many significant projects including development of the Medication Therapy/Chronic Disease Management clinics and programs, redevelopment of the pharmacy system, reorganization of the department to bring pharmacists directly to the nursing units, and recruitment and retention of skilled pharmacy staff members. His proficiency and leadership have had profound impacts on the operation of our pharmacy. Thanks to Britt and his team, patient outcomes are enhanced and patient safety is maximized.”
In addition, under Cummins’ guidance, Memorial’s Pharmacy and Medication Therapies Center staff has secured a variety of awards for the hospital, including Finalist for the Columbus CEO’s 2016 Healthcare Trailblazer award, as well as Pharmacy Director of the Year by Pharmacy Systems, Incorporated (PSI), for Cummins himself, in 2008.
Cummins shared, “Memorial is truly special. Working at Memorial over the past 14 years has proven to be so much more than a job or a place to collect a paycheck. The strong leadership, the great caring culture, the fantastic people, the passionate commitment to excellence in everything that we do for patients, families, and the community, and the strong desire to continually evolve and improve, are all things that I cherish about this organization. I truly appreciate the strong support that my team and I have received from the hospital’s leadership and team members throughout Memorial Health.”
Beginning next year, Craig Baker, PharmD, MBA, will be promoted as the new Director of Pharmacy. Baker has been a Memorial team member since 2009 as a Clinical Pharmacist in the Medication Therapies Center. In this role, he was responsible for the development and implementation of new service lines, administering direct patient care, supporting staff development, and assisting the director with pharmacy operations. He has served as a preceptor to pharmacy students in his role of Clinical Instructor, Pharmacy Practice, at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.
Baker has a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University, and a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Healthcare Administration from Baker College Center for Graduate Studies.
Actively involved in the Ohio Pharmacists Association, Baker has delivered several conference presentations and has spoken before the Ohio Senate/General Assembly as a proponent for pharmacy legislation. He currently serves on the Memorial Health Foundation Board, Memorial Quality Executive Committee, Epic Steering Committee, and the Memorial 2020 Steering Committee.
In his free time, Baker enjoys traveling with his wife, Erica, and their three children.
