Memorial Health has announced the selection of Jeff Hazey, MD, as the new Chief Medical Officer for the growing system. Dr. Hazey will bring significant clinical physician leadership experience and assist with the strategic vision and management across the entire Memorial Health enterprise.
On April 15, Dr. Hazey will transition to his CMO role on a part-time basis, gradually increasing hours to full-time duties over the following months. “As a very busy clinician, currently, the transition will evolve over time as we recruit a new surgeon to replace him in our Memorial General & Colorectal Surgery practice,” noted Chip Hubbs, President and CEO of Memorial Health.
The leadership team at Memorial engaged a national search for the best candidate, interviewing a number of very qualified physicians both internal and external to Memorial. Hubbs offered, “As a nearly seven-year member of the Memorial team, Dr. Hazey already has a wealth of knowledge about our health system, our unique landscape and culture, as well as most of the key players in the respective rooms. He came to the interview process with a number of great ideas and will be able to hit the ground running with many of the initiatives he will be challenged with.”
Dr. Hazey joined Memorial Health in 2017 as a highly respected general surgeon. He currently serves as President of the Medical Staff at Memorial Hospital, after previously serving on the Medical Executive Committee as Department of Surgery Chair. He also has experience serving Memorial on internal committees related to utilization review, peer review, anesthesia/perioperative services, and others. “Dr. Hazey’s respected voice at the system leadership table will be welcomed as we continue on our quest to grow and better serve the patients of the region,” added Hubbs.
Prior to joining the Memorial team, Dr. Hazey was the Chief of the Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at The Ohio State University. While there, he was selected to complete a leadership development program for physicians at Harvard University.
Dr. Hazey holds an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Miami (OH) University and attended Medical School at Case Western Reserve University. After an internship and residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland, he went on to complete a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
