Emergency Medicine

Providing expert care in priority medical situations.

From the time you arrive at Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department, it is our priority to provide expert care in an environment designed for your comfort and to reduce the stress of the emergency health situation.

When You Arrive

Upon your arrival, a specially trained nurse will evaluate your level of care. Patients with more serious injuries are often taken to special treatment rooms. You will receive prompt examination and treatment by our expert nurses, physicians, and healthcare providers.

Patients who may be experiencing a stroke are evaluated quickly by our physicians, who use special video equipment to communicate with critical care physicians and vascular neurosurgeons at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, a Primary Stroke Center. Through the StrokeCollaborative, we ensure that you receive the best treatment during the early hours of a stroke event — 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If your condition requires a hospital admission, you may be admitted to our Inpatient Pavilion or Miracle Life Center.

If your emergency requires transfer to a tertiary care hospital, we have both ground ambulance and medical helicopter as options.

Since family and friends often accompany you to the emergency room, we make every effort to take care of them, too. Based upon the emergency at hand, we may limit the number of visitors in the treatment room with you.

We provide complimentary coffee in our family waiting area, which includes a play area for children. Family members may also consult with physicians in a dedicated, private consultation room.

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program

For sexual assault victims in Union County, Memorial Hospital has a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program, with 24/7 access to specially trained nurses that perform forensic medical exams and provide trauma-informed care. The mission of the SANE program is to provide timely, compassionate, and expert forensic care to patients who have experienced sexual assault and seek care at our ED. All SANE-certified nurses at Memorial have completed advanced forensic and trauma training to collect evidence, offer emotional support, and ensure victims’ rights are protected from the very first point of contact. Our team stands ready to deliver this critical, round-the clock service to our community.

For more information about the SANE program at Memorial Hospital, or for patients who may not be sure if they should come to the hospital, please contact the Emergency Department at (937) 578-4025 and speak with someone 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Survivors of sexual assault can contact HelpLine at 1.800.684.2324, text “helpline” to 898211, or contact the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Victims of Crime Assistance Program at (937) 645-4160 for additional resources and support.

We appreciate you entrusting us with your emergency care.
