Rheumatology

Our Memorial Rheumatology team can provide comprehensive outpatient rheumatology care, ranging from:

  • Evaluation of new and complex rheumatologic conditions
  • Long-term disease management using treat-to-target strategies
  • Medication management, including conventional, biologic, and targeted synthetic DMARDs
  • Pre-treatment screening and ongoing monitoring (e.g., tuberculosis, hepatitis, vaccination status)

Leading our team is Ritu Madan, DO, a board-certified rheumatologist with fellowship training and extensive expertise in diagnosing and managing autoimmune, inflammatory, and musculoskeletal diseases. Her approach emphasizes early diagnosis, individualized treatment plans, and comprehensive long-term disease management. Dr. Madan’s clinical interests include rheumatoid arthritis and axial and peripheral spondyloarthritis. She works collaboratively with primary care providers and subspecialists to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.

When to See a Rheumatologist
You may benefit from seeing a rheumatologist if you are experiencing symptoms that could be related to inflammation in the joints, muscles, or immune system. Consider an evaluation if you have:

  • Joint pain, swelling, or stiffness that lasts more than a few weeks, especially if worse in the morning
  • Ongoing back pain that improves with movement but not with rest, particularly if it began before age 45
  • Recurrent joint pain or swelling (such as repeated gout flares)
  • Unexplained fatigue, fevers, or body aches along with joint symptoms
  • Rashes, dry eyes or mouth, or other symptoms that may suggest an autoimmune condition
  • Abnormal blood tests related to inflammation or autoimmune disease
  • Bone loss (osteoporosis) requiring specialized care or treatment

If your symptoms are persistent, worsening, or affecting your daily activities, a rheumatology evaluation can help identify the cause and guide appropriate treatment.
