Chip Hubbs became President/CEO of Memorial Health in March 2004. Prior to arriving in Marysville, Chip served for four years as CEO of Community Memorial Hospital in Defiance County, Ohio, just outside of Fort Wayne.
Before this, Chip’s management experience spanned various Senior Management positions at the Lutheran Health Network in Fort Wayne. He also worked as the Evening Administrator for the University of Chicago Hospitals. In all, Chip has worked for nine different hospitals throughout his career in every facet from groundskeeper and maintenance to intern, fellow, Evening Administrator, Executive Director, and CEO.
After graduating Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and a Master of Health Administration, Chip earned a fellowship at the Sinai Health System in Chicago.
He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and he has received several professional acknowledgments for his work, including receiving the Grassroots Champion Award from the American Hospital Association in 2016 for advocacy and leadership in the State of Ohio. He was listed by Becker’s Hospital Review of Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs to Know in 2017, 2016, and 2014; as well as awarded the 2014 Columbus Business First’s C-Suite Award Honoree; 2013 Union County Business Leader of the Year; Columbus Business First’s “Forty Under 40” in September 2005; and Modern Healthcare Magazine’s Up and Comer Award in 2002.
Outside the hospital, Chip serves on the Union County Foundation Board of Trustees, where he chairs the Distribution Committee, is a delegate to the American Hospital Association’s Regional Policy Board (Region V), and is a Board Member and 2019 Board Chair of the Institute for Health Innovation of the Ohio Hospital Association. He is past Board President for the Ohio Hospital Association, the Fairbanks Local School District Board of Education, the Union County Chamber of Commerce, and the Union County Family YMCA. Chip is married, has four children, and resides in Marysville.
Executive Vice President
Spence Fisher joined Memorial Hospital in September of 2004 and currently serves as Executive Vice President of Memorial Health as well as President of Memorial Medical Group, the system’s employed physician organization. Spence leads many of our ambulatory departments, including pharmacy, laboratory, imaging, surgery and physical therapy. He also organizes our efforts in business development to offer new services and expand existing services.
Spence holds both his Bachelor and Master of Health Administration degrees from The Ohio State University. He has over 20 years of healthcare experience including positions at Ernst & Young, LLP and OhioHealth. In recognition of his leadership and civic contributions, Spence was selected as a Finalist for the Executive of the Year in Columbus CEO magazine’s 2018 Healthcare Achievement Awards.
He has served on the boards of Healthcare Financial Management Association, Union County American Red Cross, Union County Chamber of Commerce and the Community Improvement Corporation. Spence is married with two children.
Chief Financial Officer
Our Financial Officer Jeff Ehlers is named in the national list of “150 hospital and health system CFOs to know” by Becker’s Hospital Review, a leading source of cutting-edge business and legal information for healthcare industry leaders. Awardees were selected for leadership in financially successful healthcare organizations.
He recently received a C-Suite Award from Columbus Business First, and will be honored with other Central Ohio executives at a prestigious event this fall. Honorees were selected for their leadership and contributions toward the financial success of their company or organization, how they overcome business challenges, and their role in growth and profitability.
Ehlers became controller at Memorial Hospital in 1997 and was appointed CFO in 1999. His responsibilities include overseeing accounting, admissions, billing, health information management, information technology, materials, and reimbursement.
He graduated from The Ohio State University with a BSBA in Accounting, earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from Urbana University, and graduated from the Union County Leadership Institute. He also has received his Certified Healthcare Finance Professional (CHFP) designation from the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Ehlers is currently serving as a Board Member of the Union County Port Authority.
Senior Advisor to the CEO
Laurie Whittington has served Memorial for over 30 years, since January 1, 2018 as Senior Advisor to the CEO. She served
as our interim CEO during the last administration transition and was
named COO in 2004. For 12 years she also served as the Administrator
of Memorial Gables. Laurie’s long career has included leadership over
diversified functions including quality, risk, technology, facilities,
plant operations, long-term care, diagnostic services, therapies and
Laurie is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the National Association for Healthcare Quality. She also served as an adjunct instructor in Allied Medical Professions for The Ohio State University and is a past member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
Laurie graduated from Ohio State with a BS in Medical Technology. She earned a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Capella University and a certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology in addition to licensure in Nursing Home Administration.
Laurie has served on the board of the United Way of Union County completing two terms, including six years on their Community Investment Committee. Since June 2014, Laurie has served as treasurer for the Lady Monarchs Softball program associated with Marysville High School.
A resident of Marysville, Laurie and her husband, Dan, are the parents of three adult children.
Chief Medical Officer
Since joining the Medical staff of Memorial Hospital in 1999, Dr. Trianfo has held many positions within our organization including, Emergency Department Physician, Assistant Director of Emergency Medicine, Hospitalist Director, Vice President of the Medical Staff, and Physician Quality Liaison. In April 2010, he joined the Administrative team in the role of Vice President of Medical Affairs and Quality.
Dr. Trianfo is from Columbus, Ohio where he was educated by the Sisters of Notre Dame. He earned degrees in Emergency Medical Technology and Nursing from Hocking Technical College in Nelsonville, Ohio. He completed his undergraduate degree in Life Sciences from Otterbein College followed by a medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. Professional interests include Quality Improvement Risk Management, Governance, and Local/State/National Healthcare Legislation.
Dr. Trianfo and his wife have three children.
Chief Human Resources Officer
The newest executive to join our Senior Leadership team, Larry came aboard in 2013 to serve as Vice President of Human Resources. A seasoned veteran, he brings over 40 years of experience and has achieved many notable accomplishments during his career, including recognition from Columbus CEO Magazine as recipient of its 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award for HR Excellence. He was a finalist for this award in 2014, and also received a Super Star Award in Human Resources from Columbus CEO in 2008. He is responsible for over 850 employees at Memorial Hospital, Memorial Gables, Memorial Medical Group, and also for Volunteer Services.
Larry holds his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from The University of Notre Dame. He completed graduate studies in Business Administration and Human Resources at Ball State University in Indiana. He has held leadership positions in Human Resources at Frederick Memorial Healthcare System, Grant Medical Center, Riverside Methodist Hospital, and the New Albany Surgical Hospital, along with other human resources leadership roles outside of healthcare in the central Ohio area.
Larry and his wife, Michelle, reside in Westerville. They have three children and seven grandchildren who they love to spend time with. An avid sports fan, Larry loves to golf when Ohio weather allows.
Vice President of Community Engagement
Melanie Ziegler was named Vice President of Community Engagement in 2017, after serving the organization in various roles within marketing, public relations, and development since 2001.
A native of New Hampshire, where her family owned a dairy farm, she has been a resident of Union County since 1995. A position in international marketing and communications at Select Sires, Inc. brought her to Central Ohio in 1993.
Melanie has a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Virginia Tech and a Master of Business Administration degree from Urbana University.
An involved community member, Melanie serves as Board President for UCO Industries in Marysville, on the Impact60 board, on Urbana University’s Department of Business Advisory Board, and is a member of the Union County Agriculture Association.
Melanie and her husband, Jeff, are the parents of four sons.
Chief Information Officer
Serving in the role of Memorial Health’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) is Andrew Chileski. Andy is responsible for all information technology and strategy for Memorial Hospital, Memorial Gables, all Memorial outpatient facilities, and our various primary care and specialist physician practices.
Prior to joining Memorial in 2018, Andy worked at Berger Health System in Circleville, Ohio where he led their IT initiatives for more than 19 years. Most recently, he held the positon of Berger’s CIO and Vice President of Support Services, where he was hailed for his technical skills as well as his business acumen and strategic focus.
An Army veteran, Andy holds his BS in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh and an MS in the same discipline from Century University.
Andy and his wife have two children.
Assistant Vice President for Nursing Services, Memorial Hospital
Since joining the nursing staff at Memorial hospital in 2010, Ashley Boyer has worked as Minimum Data Set Coordinator, Director of Memorial Gables, and Director of Obstetrics.
Born and raised in Union County, Ashley received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The Ohio University, and a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Ohio University. Before coming to Memorial, she worked as a floor nurse and Minimum Data Set Nurse at Heartland of Marion.
Ashley and her husband have two children.
